VU proud member of Footscray Learning Precinct

Victoria University is proud to be a key partner in an ambitious new project in Melbourne’s booming inner west – the Footscray Learning Precinct.

The Learning Precinct will offer seamless kindergarten-to-university education in Australia’s largest integrated education hub.

The Victorian State Government has committed $15 million towards the first stage of the precinct, that will upgrade and link existing resources and create state-of-the-art new facilities. Plans include a Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) centre hosted at VU’s Footscray Park Campus in partnership with the State Government.

Construction on the precinct is expected to start next year.

VU's key role

The Footscray Learning Precinct will share data to inform teaching and learning across all stages of education to best cater for individual learning needs. This integrated approach will enable increased teacher collaboration across schools, and greater joint use of facilities by schools, community and the University.

Victoria University’s role will include:

• establishing a new Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) centre at its Footscray Park Campus in partnership with the State Government
• helping to develop a learning framework for the new precinct with input from Mitchell Institute’s Professorial Fellows Yong Zhao and Bill Lucas, local school principals and teachers, students, community groups, and Maribyrnong City Council
• building a Teacher Education Centre of Excellence to create stronger pathways from university learning to job placement, and professional development thereafter
• strengthening existing links with local schools.
