Thursday 25 July 2013

Rotunda in the West: Conversations with Australian Writers is celebrating its 50th conversation!

The original aim of the Rotunda events was to encourage and engage writing students by introducing them to established authors and poets for conversation and inspiration. It's since become a literary event enjoyed by writers and lovers of good writing from all walks of life.

Come along to Writing across the genres, featuring two great Australian writers - Cate Kennedy and Hannie Rayson - in conversation with host, Bruno Lettieri. Up until the official start time of 7pm, there'll be music and songs with Lisa Bartels (and daughter Zil) and Naomi Evans.

There are also meals and drinks available for purchase.

Cate Kennedy is the author of:

  • The Taste of River Water (poetry)
  • The World Beneath (novel)
  • Dark Roots (short fiction)
  • Sing, and Don't Cry (travel memoir)

Hannie Rayson is a playwright and travel writer:

  • Hotel Sorrento
  • Inheritance
  • The swimming Club and more.

You can also watch Cate and Hannie together at Rotunda from a previous Rotunda session.

History of the Rotunda in the West

Produced by Victoria University's Professional Writing and Editing (TAFE) course, Rotunda In The West has taken double-decker bus passengers for poetry readings under the stars.

What started out as an event to introduce our students to the transformative power of writing and language has blossomed into an event that writer John Marsden has likened to a "merry-go-round". Journalist and former speechwriter for Kevin Rudd, James Button, praises its "large, engaged, passionate community of readers and listeners in the western suburbs.".
