About Juan Shi

Dr Juan Shi is currently an Associate Professor in the College of Sport, Health & Engineering at Victoria University (VU), Melbourne, Australia.

With over 20 years experience, Juan received her PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from VU in 1995. Juan's other roles at VU include Lecturer (October 1994) and Senior Lecturer (July 2002).

Juan's research interests include intelligent control, control applications, power system stabilisation, renewable enrgy systems and engineering education. Juan has over 100 peer-reviewed journal and conference publications including book chapters.

She is a reviewer for several high impact international journals such as:

  • European Journal of Control
  • IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology
  • IEEE Transactions on Industry Electronics
  • EEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics
  • Journal of Franklin Institute.

Juan has successfully supervised two PhD students and two Masters by research students into completion. She is currently supervising four PhD students.

Juan is also the Women in Science & Engineering (WISE) coordinator in the College of Sport, Health & Engineering. She works with the WISE@VU students club to conduct activities to support female postgraduate and undergraduate female students.

Teaching activities & experience

Juan has more than 20 years of teaching experience and has taught a variety of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) units at Victoria University.

In 2014, Juan was awarded the Vice-Chancellor's Excellence in Learning and Teaching Award (Higher Education).

In 2015, she was awarded a Citation for Outstandng Contribution to Student Learning for excellent teaching of innovative problem-based learning for engineering students, maximising their learning experience and industry readiness from the Office for Learning & Teaching, Australian government.
