Advanced Diploma of Hospitality SIT60307, Bachelor of Business (Hospitality Management)

Jen Seymen had always been employed as a supervisor in hospitality before she undertook hospitality studies at VU. There she found the tools she needed to gain employment at a higher level.

"I completed high school up until Year 10 and then worked in hospitality after that. In 2010 I decided to go back to study to progress my career and gain confidence academically. I had reviewed a few different course providers, but settled on VU after receiving a very welcoming feeling from the course coordinator, who also introduced me to VU’s pathways program.

During my studies I undertook a cooperative education year with TFE Hotels as a receptionist, which gave me a foot in the door at entry level. At the end of my co-op year, TFE offered me a place in their Future Leaders Program, and when that finished, an Assistant Manager role at Travelodge Docklands. Within 12 months I became the hotel manager of Adina Apartment Hotel Melbourne, Flinders Street. I am truly inspired by the leaders of TFE – they’ve created an environment where it is possible to achieve your goals as long as you are focused and hardworking.

My VU degree gave me the confidence and knowledge to move forward in my career, and opportunities to build my professional network. I am passionate about the hospitality and tourism community and throughout my studies, wherever possible, I put up my hand to help. As a result, I met some exciting and inspiring people."
