Tourism's rising star

Through VU’s Work Integrated Learning (WIL) program, I completed my co-op year at Tourism Victoria where I now work full time as the international media and trade assistant. The program gave me a competitive edge on other graduates.

Tourism award winner Tessa McLachlan is capitalising on a world of opportunities.

"To me, Victoria University’s tourism course is the best in Victoria. The teachers are passionate and they opened doors to fantastic opportunities and networks.

Through VU’s Work Integrated Learning (WIL) program, I completed my co-op year at Tourism Victoria where I now work full time as the international media and trade assistant. The program gave me a competitive edge on other graduates looking for work in the industry.

Also, winning the Todd Blake Student Award gave me invaluable opportunities, including shadowing Natalie O'Brien, CEO of the Melbourne International Food and Wine Festival. It’s really rewarding working in an industry that has a huge impact on Australia’s economy.

I recently spent two months volunteering in Borneo at the Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre. My goal is to work in overseas conservation, contributing to joint tourism and conservation ventures."
