Foundation Mathematics provides for the continuing mathematical development of students entering VCE, who need mathematical skills to support their other VCE subjects. Students completing this course would need to undertake further mathematical study in order to attempt Further Mathematics Units 3 and 4. In Foundation Mathematics there is a strong emphasis on using mathematics in practical contexts relating to everyday life, recreation, work and study. Students are encouraged to use appropriate technology in all areas of their study. These units will be especially useful for students undertaking VET studies. The areas of study for Units 1 and 2 of Foundation Mathematics are ‘Space, shape and design’, ‘Patterns and number’, and Unit 2 deals with ‘Handling data’ and ‘Measurement’. This Unit is delivered at Year 11 level.
Demonstration of 'Satisfactory completion' by a selection of Assessment tasks and Level of Performance by SAC (Tests) and Exams.
Lecturer will provide teaching and learning materials as required in the form of VU produced workbooks.
This unit is not compulsory for any specific course. Depending on the course you study, this unit may be taken as an elective.
