MyWorkspace

A virtual application can only be used on one device at a time.

If you have used more than one device to login to your MyWorkspace Portal, the latest device that you login with will become the active MyWorkspace session.

Your VU network drive in MyWorkspace is W: drive. You can use this W: drive to download and access files from any computer, anywhere with internet while using a virtual application.

Use the Z: drive to save files directly to your local computer while connected to the VMWare Horizon Client.

Do not save files to C: Drive while connected to the VMWare Horizon Client.

Upload files from your W: Drive to VU Collaborate using the Google Chrome Virtual Application. Other web browsers on your computer do not have access to W: Drive.

To upload files to VU Collaborate from your computer using the Google Chrome Virtual Application, you will need to choose the Z: Drive (not C: drive) to access the files from your local computer.

Alternatively, if your files are located on your computer or USB you can use a normal web browser on your computer to upload your files to VU Collaborate.

Printing from MyWorkspace works the same as printing via VU Global.

Your print jobs will be sent to VU Global print queue and can be printed from a printer on campus.

Close and relaunch MyWorkspace if a virtual application does not appear on your desktop or the application becomes idle.

Use the following instructions to install VMWare Horizon Client on a PC, or download the PC/Windows instructions with screenshots (PDF, 467.48 KB).

Before you start, save and close any open documents and applications on your computer.

1. Navigate to VMWare Customer Connect
2. Click Download Now to download the VMWare Horizon Client for Windows
3. Click Agree and Install to agree to the privacy agreement and license terms and install the product
4. Click Finish
5. Click Restart Now to complete the configuration change for your computer.

If the download window does not appear, go to your Downloads folder in File Explorer and right click the .exe file for VMware Horizon Client. Choose Run as Administrator and follow the login prompts.

Complete the setup in MyWorkspace Portal:

1. Navigate to myworkspace.vu.edu.au and login
2. Click Allow to share your home folder and removable storage when using VMware Horizon
3. Click your account icon on the top right of the screen and select Account
4. Under Preferences , click on Horizon Client to make this the default for using Virtual Applications.

Before you start, save and close any open documents and applications on your computer.

1. Navigate to VMWare Customer Connect
2. Click Download Now to download the VMWare Horizon Client for Mac operation system
3. Click Allow to allow downloads on my.vmware.com
4. Open the .dmg file for VMWare Horizon Client in your Downloads folder
5. Change the language on the installer to English and click Agree to continue
6. Follow the instructions on your screen to drag the VMware Horizon Client icon to the Applications folder icon
7. From your Applications folder on your computer, click the VMWare Horizon Client to open it
8. Click Open and then Continue when prompted
9. Login with your Mac user account and password and click OK
10. Click Cancel when prompted to “enter the name of the connection server” and then click OK
11. Click Open System Preferences and click the lock icon at the bottom of the installer screen to make changes
12. Enter your Mac user account and password and click Unlock
13. Click the checkbox next to VMware Horizon Client to enable.

Complete the setup in MyWorkspace Portal:

1. Navigate to myworkspace.vu.edu.au
2. Click your account icon on the top right of the screen and select Account
3. Click Allow to share your home folder and removable storage when using VMware Horizon
4. Under Preferences, click on Horizon Client to make this the default for using Virtual Applications.

Only you have access to your files on your virtual desktop. A virtual desktop can only be assigned to one user at a time. When the user no longer requires their virtual desktop, the virtual desktop is rebuilt before being assigned to someone else.

Virtual desktops do however have the same global security policies in place as our standard laptops for both student and staff profiles. When browsing on a virtual machine the browser history will be securely monitored the same as your staff laptop or on-campus student machines would be.

Virtual desktop screens can be shared just as normal in Zoom, select the virtual desktop screen to share with other video participants.
