Learn how to use generative artificial intelligence responsibly as part of your learning, and how to acknowledge and reference its use.

If you use generative artificial intelligence (generative AI) as part of your learning, consider the risks of using this type of technology and follow the guidelines in the Library Guide Introduction to Generative AI to ensure an ethical and productive use of generative AI in line with Victoria University guidelines.

The new Library Guide Introduction to Generative AI includes:

  • principles to consider when using generative AI for your studies:
    • Follow the guidelines given for the particular course, unit, and assessment.
    • Keep track how you are using generative AI throughout an assessment.
    • Do not copy and paste from a generative AI tool, and ensure that your final work is your own.
    • Fact-check AI-generated information, and apply critical thinking.
  • Victoria University guidelines on:
    • how to use generative AI responsibly to assist you in your studies
    • risks associated with the use of generative AI
    • academic integrity and copyright
    • VU Policy and Student guidelines for using text generating AI tools.
  • guidance on how to acknowledge and reference the use of generative AI:
    • flowchart to determine if your use of AI for learning or for content creation for assessment requires acknowledgement and/or referencing
