Ali is an AI Practitioner-Researcher who started her career with an ICT, Mathematics, Chemistry and Science major.

She has taught ESL English in Sydney and China and spent most of her teaching career in secondary schools as the Head of Science in three different schools and as a VCE Chemistry and VCE and Selective Entry Advanced Learning (SEAL) Mathematics teacher.

Ali has worked as a Teacher mentor and lecturer in initial Teacher and post graduate Teacher courses from 2007 when she started as a senior Chemistry curriculum lecturer at Deakin University where she completed her Master of Educational Leadership research degree and networked with academics she now works with at Victoria University.

Ali is a unit convenor of four Teaching Mathematics units in the Master of Teaching programs at Victoria University.

She has developed the world’s first AI pedagogy named the AI insect and is currently finalising a research paper on this. Ali’s research interests in AI, Chemistry and Mathematics are related to her long term goal to make a practical real difference to improving the mobility of the elderly and enhancing neuroplasticity of the ageing and she believes she can motivate outstanding educational outcomes and pathways through her teaching of AI technology, Chemistry and Mathematics to help us achieve this endpoint for us all to live longer, healthier, more fulfilled lives.

Ali is an active research member in the Equality in Research team, Women in IT committee and is the Chief Emergency Warden at VU Footscray Park.

Ali’s past research has included mixed methods research into the effectiveness of PBL pedagogy in mathematics classrooms, case study research into the roles of mathematics and science in interdisciplinary STEM settings and currently How democratic STEM classroom settings can guide students’ engagement in and understanding of AI. Ali presented her research at HERDSA in Brisbane in July in 2023 and will present her AI pedagogy at Valencia University in March 2024.

Ali initiated and manages the AI Our Way secondary girls program and mixed Advanced mathematics AI school program that runs through the VU Cyber Security and Training Operations Centre (CSOC) at Victoria University, St. Albans. Ali is currently working towards developing a VU University VCE Extension study in AI for VCE students to complete as part of their VCE, achieving a uni study credit point simultaneously. Ali has written a number of teacher resource books in Chemistry, Biology and Science through TSSM and Kilbaha Publishing.

Most recently, Ali wrote a chapter for the Doing Doctoral Research – Narratives of Practice book which will be published by Brill Sense in December 2023.
