Caglayan is a student-focused academic working within the Nursing and Miwifery Program in the College of Sport, Health and Engineering.

She is an experienced surgical, community and rapid assessment nurse and is currently undertaking her PhD with the aim to improve patient/staff experience with falls prevention in a medical ward. She graduated as a Registered Nurse in 2003 and currently works as a community nurse to maintain currency in the nursing industry. 

She commenced her career at VU as a clinical facilitator in 2015, followed by facilitating second and third-year nursing students, before obtaining a permanent position in the First Year College. Currently, she is facilitating second year nursing students in the Discipline College. She has also held roles such as: 

  • Injury prevention educator at the Northern Hospital: providing manual handing training, staff manual handling injury follow-up, audits and education for falls and pressure injury prevention.
  • Quality coordinator: the three portfolios she was responsible were; falls prevention, pressure injury prevention and staff manual handling injuries/prevention.
  • Educator for a private RTO: nurse educator 

Her research interests include pressure injury, nurse’s documentation with pressure injuries, and falls prevention to improve patient safety and well-being.
