The OSCE (Objective Structured Clinical Examination) is a rigorous practical assessment of clinical skills required for nursing registration in Australia.

Our specialised program will familiarise you with the Australian healthcare system, giving you the best chance of success. You’ll be provided with expert training in the key areas of the OSCE, alongside supervised practice in modern clinical facilities.

Please note that the OSCE Preparation Program for Nurses is a short course, and that we require you to apply directly on your own behalf, without the assistance of an education agent.

This course is open to international applicants only. Australian residents are not eligible for this program.

: You’ll study for four weeks, full-time, in small classes with no more than 16 students, ensuring personalised learning and extensive clinical practice.

The program will cover the key competencies required to pass the exam, including:

nursing knowledge.

: Study at state-of-the-art VU campuses in St Albans and Sunshine in the west of Melbourne, where you’ll develop your skills in nursing laboratories that recreate a hospital environment. Expert nursing educators provide scenario-based simulation activities related directly to nursing practice and patient care.

Interactive mannequin technology brings the experience to life. VU’s simulation-based learning blends theory with practice, offering extensive experience of real-life situations based directly on OSCE assessments.

You’ll benefit from repeated opportunities to practice your skills and receive specific and immediate feedback from experienced educators to develop your expertise.
: Regular course intakes align with OSCE dates, with the exam usually held in Melbourne the following month.

Entry requirements

Becoming an Internationally Qualified Registered Nurse (IQRN) in Australia requires several steps.

If you pass the Nursing Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) self-check, you’ll then need to complete a National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) before taking the OSCE.

Applicants for our OSCE Preparation Program must prove they have already passed the NCLEX-RN.

Applicants must also demonstrate they meet the NMBA English language skills registration standard, with an IELTS score of 7.0 in all bands, or equivalent.
