Sports Environment Alliance

Victoria University has joined forces with Sports Environment Alliance (SEA) to help make a difference to our planet through sport. SEA is a burgeoning global leader and supporter of sport:

to do more [for the world] with less [footprint]

VU & the Alliance

The Sports Environment Alliance is established with a purpose of protecting and enhancing the natural environment of Australasia by promoting sustainability, sustainable development, regeneration and use of resources by:

  • educating the general public through mass engaging cultural levers, namely, the sport community and industry
  • encouraging climate action through mitigation and adaptation, sharing resources and undertaking related projects and programs
  • engaging all communities in the ideals, values, and vision of our charity organisation to protect our clean future through present action.

The SEA mission to lead, educate, and inspire our sport community members to learn, share, and act for a more sustainable and regenerative Australasia resonates well with Victoria University. We recognise the significant role sport has to play in planetary health, in particular as an enabler of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Our commitment to the SDGs

Guided by the SDGs, VU is committed to making a beneficial contribution to place-based planetary health initiatives through research, teaching and learning, and through the way we work and engage with our communities and each other.

Place-based Planetary Health at VU is finding sustainable solutions to challenges impacting the wellbeing of people, communities, Country, and environment, recognising that the wellbeing of all is dependent on the wellbeing of our planet. We prioritise solutions that are locally anchored or ‘place-based’ to ensure sustainability.

To contribute to future-proofing sustainable sport, VU has set strategic priority to:

build a more active Australia, achieving sporting excellence, safeguarding the integrity of sport and strengthening the national and global sport industry.

Four central themes define our contributions:

  1. Sport for Innovation
  2. Sport for Inspiration
  3. Sport for Community Cohesion
  4. Sport for Social Change.
