Overview

A broad understanding of the international business environment is essential to business decision-making. This unit introduces students to the multi-faceted nature of international business and builds the foundation for more specialised studies by providing a multi-disciplinary examination of issues faced by firms in international markets. An exploration of the international business environment includes global trade and investment, the regulatory environment, organisational structure, management practices and corporate strategy. Students work collaboratively in critically analysing international business case studies and the challenges of globalisation in selected contexts.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Develop a working knowledge of key concepts and theories of international business;
  2. Investigate the international trade and investment environment;
  3. Analyse collaboratively national business environments and implications for international business operations;
  4. Analyse the economic, political, cultural and regulatory environments that influence international business;
  5. Apply multidisciplinary knowledge and frameworks to international business operations and market entry strategies; and
  6. Appraise international business management practices and multinational organisational structure.
