Gain a broad understanding of the international business environment, with Foundations of International Business.

A strong grasp of the multi-faceted nature of international business in the world economy is essential to equip you with the business decision-making abilities required for this dynamic field.

This unit will introduce you to the economic, cultural, political and ethical environments of a firm’s international business operations.

You will critically review international business activities, using the concepts and theories of:

  • international trade
  • regulatory environment
  • investment and foreign exchange
  • organisational structure and corporate strategy.


You will work collaboratively, through industry-based case studies and active learning, to understand the challenges firms face regarding globalisation.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Articulate the main theoretical suppositions relating to the fundamentals of international business and the global economy;
  2. Conceptualise the trade, investment and political economy environment implications influencing international business operations;
  3. Review multidisciplinary knowledge and frameworks to critically analyse and interpret information for international business operations and market entry strategy decision-making; and,
  4. Articulate and present analytical findings and strategic recommendations in relation to international business operations of a firm.
