Overview

Make better logistics decisions with the Digital Supply Chain Management unit.

Learn to use logistics technologies to make better decisions in real time and improve business performance.

In this unit, you will develop hands-on goods manufacturing and distribution skills. Plus, learn about a range technologies such as:

  • bar coding
  • RFID (radio frequency identification)
  • sensor technologies
  • block chain technology
  • warehouse management systems (WMS)
  • ERP-simulation (enterprise resource planning).

You will work in a team to reflect on an industry field trip. This will reference a broad range of theories and frameworks associated with digital supply chain management.


By visiting an operating warehouse, you will discover WMS and Dematic Mini Loader – a real time automatic loading and retrieval system for efficient material handling and faster order fulfilment – and become industry-ready.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Critically reflect on a range of supply chain functions and processes and the influence that the emerging digital technologies have on them;
  2. Critically review supply chain technologies and reflect on their suitable applications based upon the reading of established academic literature;
  3. Reflect, individually and/or collaboratively, on simulated case studies and industry practices with reference to digitalised supply chain management to produce an industry report, and presentation; and,
  4. Contextualise and synthesise information from various sources to present a clear, coherent and independent exposition of knowledge in the field of supply chain and technology applications.
