Learn about logistics with the Strategic Supply Chain Management unit.

This unit will introduce you to end-to-end supply chain management and its strategic role in the global business environment.

You will reflect on a range of domestic and international logistics challenges, relevant to the real world. Then, explore how information and communication technologies (ICT) enable supply chain process integration (SCI) for higher efficiency.

Key topics include:

  • demand-supply balance
  • inbound and outbound logistics functions and risk management
  • supply chain relationships
  • performance measurement
  • triple bottom line sustainability.

In this unit you will engage in a wide range of learning activities. These include case study analysis, problem-solving and reporting, innovative poster design, video of exemplar organisations, industry visit/guest presentations.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Critically reflect on the role and benefits of supply chains in enhancing a firm's global competitiveness in applying effective strategies;
  2. Rationalise cost and chain performance, and critically evaluate customer service delivery by developing strategies for important, complex and unpredictable future challenges;
  3. Collaborate to develop a professional report and presentation and justify recommendations with appropriate use of technologies that address domestic and international supply chain challenges through an in-depth study of a selected firm; and
  4. Conceptually map and synthesise information from various sources to present a clear, coherent and independent exposition of knowledge in the field of supply chain and logistics management.
