About Jerome Rachele

Jerome is a Lecturer in Public Health and the Course Chair of the Bachelor of Health Sciences in the College of Sport, Health and Engineering, and a member of the Active Living and Public Health research group in the Institute for Health and Sport. The primary focus of Jerome's research is to improve our understanding of how urban design can reduce health inequalities. He holds honorary appointments in the University of Melbourne School of Population and Global Health, and the RMIT University Centre for Urban Design.

Jerome completed an undergraduate double-degree in Applied Science (Human Movement Studies) and Education (Secondary) (2010) followed by a PhD (2014) at the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane. Following the completion of his PhD, Jerome worked at Queensland Health, then as a Research Fellow in the NHMRC Centre for Research Excellence in Healthy, Liveable and Equitable Communities based at the Queensland University of Technology (2014-2015), before moving to Australian Catholic University until the end of 2017. In 2018, Jerome began working as a Research Fellow in the NHMRC Centre for Research Excellence in Disability and Health based at the University of Melbourne. 

Jerome's publication record includes >40 papers in international peer-reviewed journals, one book chapter, seven research reports, and >10 international conference presentations. He currently supervises four PhD students and two Masters sutdents, and has supervised a further two PhD students and two Masters students to completion. He has received several academic awards, including a Vice Chancellor's Performance Award at the Queensland University of Technology (2013), and a Knowledge Translation Award from the Melbourne School of Population and Global Health at the University of Melbourne.
