About John Weldon

Dr John Weldon held the position: ‘Head of Curriculum’ in Victoria University’s First Year College (FYC) from 2017-2021. As such, he was intimately involved in the design, development and implementation of the VU Block Model, and First Year Model. From 2022-2023, he was seconded to the VU Business College to lead the curriculum revitalisation of VU’s Business degrees.

In 2021, Weldon co-authored the book Content Production for Digital Media: an Introduction, published by Springer Nature; a German language version will be published in 2024. Currently he is leading an international team of writers in the production of the first book on Block Teaching in Higher Education, which will be published in 2024, again by Springer Nature.

In 2020, Weldon lead the establishment of IBILTA (the International Block and Intensive Learning and Teaching Association), serving as inaugural president until October 2023.

Prior to his role in the FYC, John Weldon taught and researched in the field of Professional and Creative Writing in VU’s College of Arts and Education. His PhD research focused on the intersection of digital interactivity and the novel. His research into has been published in international journals, he is a novelist and has worked as a freelance reporter and writer since the mid-1990s for organisations including: The Age, The Sydney Morning Herald, The ABC, The AFL, Times Higher Education and The Westsider.
