Overview

Complete the WorkSafe Victoria requirements for the Construction Induction Card (White Card) to gain access to worksites, with this one-day course offered by Victoria University Polytechnic.

The Construction Induction Card (White Card) is mandatory for anyone needing to gain access to work on construction sites in Australia.

This one-day white-card short course teaches you to work safely in the construction industry, or any building site. It provides you with a comprehensive understanding of the minimum health and safety expectations on construction sites, and includes:

  • identifying and verbally reporting common construction hazards
  • understanding basic risk control measures
  • identifying procedures for responding to potential incidents and emergencies
  • OH&S and safe work practices
  • correctly selecting and fitting common personal protective equipment (PPE) used for construction work.

Once you have successfully completed this training, you will receive a Statement of Attainment for the unit CPCWHS1001. VU Polytechnic will apply to WorkSafe Victoria for the Construction Induction Card (White Card) to be issued.

 

This short course meets the general construction induction training requirements of:

  • Part 1.1 Definitions and Part 6.5 of the Model Work Health and Safety Regulations
  • Division 11 of Part 3 of the Occupational Safety and Health Regulations 1996 for Western Australia
  • Division 3 of Part 5.1 of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations 2007 for Victoria.

Course contents

A Statement of Attainment for the Skillset, CONISS012 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry, a student must successfully complete the unit listed below.

VU Polytechnic will apply to WorkSafe Victoria to issue a Construction Induction Card directly to students.

UNIT

Recognition of Prior Learning and/or Credit Transfers:

Previous completion of units at the Polytechnic or any other Registered Training Organisation and/or previous attainment of skills and knowledge may be credited towards this course.

The Construction Induction Card (White Card), is mandatory for all persons to gain access to work on construction sites in Australia. This course provides participants with a comprehensive understanding of the minimum health and safety expectations imposed on them when undertaking systems of work on construction sites and includes:

identifying and orally reporting common construction hazards

understanding basic risk control measures
-
identifying procedures for responding to potential incidents and emergencies
-
OH&S and safe work practices
-
correctly selecting and fitting common personal protective equipment (PPE) used for construction work.

This unit meets the general construction induction training requirements of:
Part 1.1 Definitions and Part 6.5 of the Model Work Health and Safety Regulations;
Division 11 of Part 3 of the Occupational Safety and Health Regulations 1996 for Western Australia; and
Division 3 of Part 5.1 of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations 2007 for Victoria.

This one (1) day short course covers the Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry unit CPCWHS1001, and provides participants with the personal awareness and knowledge to meet the requirements of Introductory safety training with WorkSafe Victoria.

Upon successful completion of this induction safety training, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment for the unit CPCWHS1001. VU Polytechnic will apply to WorkSafe Victoria for the Construction Induction Card to be issued.

Admission & pathways

Meeting the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee you entry into this course. Some courses receive more applications than the number of places available. In this situation we will also assess your education, work and other relevant experience.

Applicants must apply online and complete a Pre-Training Review (PTR) as part of the application process to determine suitability.

It is expected students must have the basic language and literacy skills to be able to participate in the course and assessments. The trainer will assess these skills prior to enrolment through a pre-training assessment. It is a WorkSafe Victoria directive that interpreters or electronic or personal translator apps or devices cannot be used.
